December 29, 2016 – Denver, CO and NYC, NY – Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing full-service self-publishing and book marketing company—is pleased to announce the release of John K. Briscoe’s unique and intelligent collection, Unexplored Lives: A Collection of Short Stories. The book features nine compelling tales of the struggles and conquests of regular people facing unusual situations.
As an avid moviegoer of all genres, Fishkill, NY, resident John Briscoe is fascinated by how plots develop and twist back onto themselves, a technique he successfully employs in his updated collection of short fiction.
“My interest in various types of perspectives influenced this book of stories that study the human psyche under stressful conditions,” he explains. “Dealing with life’s uncertainties is something for which we can rarely prepare, but it ultimately reveals who we truly are.”
In Unexplored Lives, the stories explore nine scenarios: One character leaves a cell phone with private photos in a bathroom at a high school party. One has survived severe childhood physical abuse, and one is bullied every day in junior high school. In other stories, characters are wrongfully arrested, tricked into loving an unconventional person, and experience outside forces that change their relationship with their mother. There are tales of the paranormal and a perplexing murder with despicable suspects.
These situations may initially seem familiar, but life can be complicated. Three of the stories are based on actual events that had only been revealed to the public to a limited degree. Briscoe delves into the potential psychological and social effects of these incidents, giving the reader a glimpse into the lives of people who are faced with daunting circumstances and revealing their uncommon experiences.
As one Amazon reviewer stated, “John is a truly talented, naturally born writer. His analysis of life, personal struggles and a poignant perspective have sculpted this awesome book of one-of-a-kind short stories. Reminiscent of the late Ray Bradbury, these stories touch upon the human condition and delve into personal pain, lament and self-empowerment.”
